Full Job Description

A fantastic opportunity have arisen to join BEAR Scotland’s SE team as an Asset Inspector.

The South East Trunk Road Unit spans 506km through some of the busiest sections of the country, from central Scotland to through the Scottish Borders. It includes routes such as the Edinburgh City Bypass, as well as a large section of the M8 connecting Edinburgh to Glasgow.

Role includes:

  • Undertaking weekly driven Safety Inspections and Safety Patrols to record defects that represent a hazard to the travelling public and, where safe to do so, carrying out minor repairs.
  • Walked condition inspections to visually assess the condition of the assets to identify defects that will contribute to the establishment of programmes of routine maintenance tasks that do not require urgent repairs.
  • Walked inspections and desktop surveys to validate the inventory held in the Transport Scotland Asset Management Performance System and to collect and update the inventory when changes are made.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • As the role of an Asset Inspector can involve interaction with the public, candidates will be subject to the basic disclosure process through Disclosure Scotland.
  • Although previous experience of road maintenance is preferable, it is not essential as training and mentoring will be provided.
  • Candidates must however have good computer skills as all inspections are carried out using data capture devices that download to Transport Scotland’s Asset Management Performance System.
  • Experience of Microsoft Word and Excel will also be useful.
  • A full approved driving licence is essential.
