Full Job Description

  • Assist in promoting good fire safety practices and the day-to-day management of the fire safety role on-site

  • Assist with monitoring and maintaining the EDF's fire risk assessment programme, produce risk assessments and identify risks and actions for remedy

  • Provide suitable fire safety guidance and information for site and keep abreast of any changes to relevant fire safety legislation and guidance

  • Assist in inspection, care and maintenance of fire extinguishers and related equipment

  • Collation of monthly KPIs for Fire Safety

  • Production of OPEX / Toolbox Talks

  • Update of Fire Safety documentation - PIOI's, check sheets and independent verification forms

  • Implementation and ongoing monitoring of Fire Extinguisher controls and laydown records

  • Creation and maintenance of Fire Extinguisher digital records

  • Management of various fire safety projects: -


  • o Fire hose testing of all hoses on site facilitation visits and batches
    o Fire Extinguisher testing and management
  • Carrying out independent verification checks for Hot Work where required

  • Assistance in the delivery of Fire Safety training workshops including fire extinguisher training

  • Attendance of meetings in absence of Fire Safety Coordinator

  • Assistance in the organisation of annual fire drills

  • Assistance in audits, inspections and regulator visits to escort visitors and data gathering

  • Willingness to work "out of hours" as needed

  • Outage Safety & Quality Team Support

    Complexity:
  • Be able to rectify problems where appropriate (following correct procedures)

  • Identify and report areas and procedures that fail to meet expected standards (Safety, Technical and Environmental)

  • Carry out appropriate risk assessments before undertaking any work

    FPA level 3 certificate or equivalent

  • Able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, lift, push and carry up to HSE guidelines.

  • ECDL or equivalent in MS Office programs, including Word & Excel

  • Conducting fire risk assessments

  • Auditing fire safety equipment's such as fire hoses, equipment's etc

  • Working knowledge of Scottish fire safety legislation and familiarity with codes of practice and guidance

  • Ability and experience of producing written reports and statistical information using IT software

  • Previous experience of using computers to input/retrieve and interrogate data.


  • Desirable:
  • Following risk assessment, deciding on relevant risk control measures

  • Providing advice and guidance on fire safety law and practices., Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate well verbally and in writing with staff and other external organisations, including enforcement authorities outside the association.

  • Able to write accurate and clear correspondence and reports, including the presentation of statistical information using IT software and databases.

  • Good time management skills, able to take responsibility and to work independently and flexibly to prioritise workloads, meeting deadlines and targets, whilst maintaining an assertive, confident and diplomatic approach to staff/contractors

  • Ability to organise consultation exercises and meetings for the Fire Coordinator and Emergency Preparedness Assistant to promote fire safety awareness, where necessary.
