Full Job Description

Established for over 25 years with offices throughout Scotland and England, we are looking for a Financial Accountant to join our team based at our head office, which is ideally placed in Glasgow city centre.


Our group spans many areas including land development, energy projects, Landcare, facilities management and waste management. Growth in recent years has seen us build the finance function which we are looking to continue.


A fast paced role in a dynamic and busy environment provides a great opportunity for our staff and we are looking for a motivated and adaptable person to join the team. 


Responsibilities


  • Prepare financial information to a trial balance level ready to be used for statutory accounts including supporting schedules and analysis of movements
  • Prepare consolidation entries for group accounts
  • Prepare financial statements for the group entities as well as the consolidated financial statements
  • Oversee annual audit process, acting as main point of contact with external auditors and tax advisors
  • Prepare annual tax returns
  • Perform balance sheet account reconciliations
  • Research and resolve any reconciling items on a monthly basis
  • Evaluating entries for completeness and accuracy
  • Reviewing general ledger activity, analysing and correcting account discrepancies
  • Assist the finance function with ad hoc projects as required
  • Working closely with the wider finance team to resolve any financial reporting queries in a timely and effective manner
  • Liaising with HMRC and Companies House 

Skills required


  • Experience of sage 50
  • Experience using CCH accounts and tax software
  • Experience of the statutory accounts process
  • Highly motivated and detail orientated individual with excellent communication, computer and organisational skills
  • Fluent in Microsoft excel
  • Experience of audit and reconciliation exercises
  • Knowledge of FRS102, statutory accounts preparation (limited companies & partnerships), consolidations, financial controls environment and audit processes
  • Broad knowledge of small business taxation including VAT
  • Good time management skills and ability to efficiently organise your own workload

Minimum requirements


  • CA or ACCA qualified or sufficient experience in a similar role
  • Sound technical knowledge – FRS102
  • Must be thorough, accurate and comfortable when working to achieve tight deadlines
  • Highly self-motivated
