Full Job Description

  • You must have held a clean driving licence for at least 5 years

  • We are looking for a new team member for our East Calder Branch.

We are looking for someone with integrity, honour, and energy. We are also looking for a candidate that can lead a small team in 2025.

Integrity - We want someone who is honest and has strong moral principles.

Honour - Respect for other staff members and customers is very important. Having pride in your work is essential.

Energy - We someone who is self-motivated, enthusiastic and who can overcome challenges both independently and as part of a team.

The successful applicant will be working with a team leader maintaining gardens on a fortnightly schedule. When maintaining gardens, they will be required to do lawn mowing, strimming, hedge trimming, shrub pruning and weeding.

In the winter they will be required to assist in small landscaping jobs, fencing, pressure washing and delivering flyers to build up the business.,
  • Being physically fit is essential for working as a gardener.

  • Not scared of heights. We occasionally need to climb ladders to trim trees and bushes.

  • A basic to intermediate knowledge of plants. This is not essential as training will be given.

  • Be able to meet at EH53 0GL in time for starting at the first job for 8am.

  • Have a clean full UK driving licence for at least 5 years.

  • Good references from prior jobs

We believe all our staff should receive at least the national living wage. On top of this, we have implemented a profit sharing scheme. For this position, the rate of pay is £13 per hour. After a probation period of 6 months (or sooner based on performance) you will be added to our profit share scheme. Details will be discussed at the interview stage.

  • We don't do seasonal contracts

One of the biggest complaints of staff in the gardening industry is layoffs from November to February. All our staff are full-time throughout the year. This way, we can keep a consistent, well-trained team together. In the winter, we market heavily and grow our customer base for the following season.

    Culture

We have a friendly and hardworking culture where we support each other both professionally and personally. We are also open to new ideas and different ways of doing things that might improve the way we work. We are continually looking for ways to improve our operations.

One thing we are very strict about is not smoking in customers' gardens, work vans, or around other employees. If you are someone who is looking to quit smoking, we believe that we would be a good company to work for.

    Technology

We understand that a company can't grow efficiently without good technology and processes. We invest a lot of time in building and tweaking technology-based solutions that help the team work and communicate more efficiently. One thing we are hugely against is the tracking of vehicles and staff as we believe staff should be trusted and not monitored.

£13 an hour - Permanent, Full-time, On a typical work day we aim to start at 8am and finish at 4.30pm.

Weather delays might require longer days to be worked for the rest of the week or working on a Saturday. Please note we rarely work at the weekends as we believe family time is very important.

We have made up routes that mean we don't travel more than 20 minutes to our first job. All travel time is paid.
