Full Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for Harm Reduction Worker within our new Safer Drug Consumption Facility. The Safer Drug Consumption Facility (SDCF) in Glasgow offers a unique harm reduction approach in Scotland in response to the increased mortality and morbidity associated with injecting drug use as recommended by "Taking Away the Chaos" (NHS GG&C 2016). The Glasgow SDCF will provide hygienic environments where illicit drugs (purchased off the premises) can be consumed under clinical supervision with the onsite availability of sterile injecting equipment, advice on injecting technique, overdose assistance, on-site health & social service. It is anticipated that benefits will include engagement with people who use drugs in vicinity, reduce drug-related health harms, reduce infectious disease transmission, increase access to treatment, care, and support services, reduce stigma and supporting vulnerable people to engage with appropriate services. Staff must strictly adhere to the Service
Policies, Standard Operating Procedures and Rules as set out in the Service Specification. There will be a robust training and induction program to ensure staff are aware of their roles and responsibilities and the legal framework for the service. Staff will also be required to assist with the evaluation and any planned research. You will be based in the "aftercare area" of the facility but may be required to support individuals to access wider supports. You should have a non-judgemental approach and can maintain compassionate and consistent boundaries when dealing with challenging behaviour from the service user group. You should have experience of working with vulnerable service users. Applicants must be educated to SVQ level 3. Successful Candidates will be expected to work on a rotational shift pattern, which includes Early / Late
shifts, weekends and public holidays. Membership of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme will be essential on taking up appointment. Please note successful candidates for the above position will be required to pay for their PVG Membership/or Scheme Check
