Full Job Description

This is a 12 Month Contract to devise and implement font licence compliance and best practise across DC Thomson print, digital and apps following a recent review of font licensing and usage across the DC Thomson group. The successful candidate, working with other specialists within the group, will be responsible for:

  • Completing the investigations into font usage around the group

  • Systematically consolidating existing information and recordkeeping on fonts across the Group

  • Implementing, training and onboarding users of the font management system, working with account managers of the vendor solution to maximise value to DC Thomson from that relationship

  • With other specialists, supporting the creation and/or design of internal font usage, purchasing and accounting policies within the group and leading the training of these policies

  • Supporting the brand team in providing appropriate internal challenge, governance and cost consciousness around font usage within the Group


  • Some previous experience of font licensing would be desirable but not necessary.

    Reports to the DC Thomson Director of Brand Marketing

    Working closely with colleagues from: Product & Tech, Legal, HR, Editorial design, Production, Procurement

    Potentially a part-time 3+ day a week role

  • An experienced project manager with the gravitas, curiosity and EQ to deliver sustainable behaviours and solutions for a fast-paced matrixed organisation.

  • A results driven project manager - the company has ambitious goals to reduce the number of fonts used and put thorough processes and controls in place.

  • A careful planner - the complex and concurrent tasks involved will need to be planned and sequenced.

  • A multi-tasker - who can manage several workstreams at once, working with diverse teams from design, brand management, editorial, legal, HR, product & tech, procurement etc.

  • Experienced working with product and tech teams - able to understand, converse with, gain respect and challenge system requirements around DC Thomson

  • Ideally experience in design systems and in a perfect world, publishing design

  • Someone who relishes paying attention to detail and setting up comprehensive record-keeping, whilst keeping the project moving at pace.

  • A team-player that people across the business will enjoy working with. Someone who will keep momentum and spirits up. Someone who will relish and cheerlead through inevitable unexpected challenges.

    This is a full-time position - 12 Month Fixed Term Contract, working 35 hours per week.
