Let’s look at just some of the positions you can expect to find on s1jobs.

Support workers and counsellors are vital supporters of the LBGTQ+ community. Typically, they come from a social work background and specialise in providing guidance, advice and education to people of different orientations and identities, either one-on-one or in group settings.

It can be a challenging role that may also involve advocacy, outreach work and promoting rights and awareness for the LBGTQ+ population and their families. Are you dynamic? Positive? Compassionate? This could be just the job for you!

Psychologists, psychiatrists and therapists who work in the LGBTQ+ sphere typically counsel their clients about issues specifically related to gender, sexuality and identity. Providing emotional and psychological support, they often deal with individuals who are in the process of transitioning too.

These professionals can be based in community mental health centres, medical centres and hospitals and private clinics.

NGOs and charity organisation employees, meanwhile, work at local, national and international levels. There are numerous charities that focus specifically on LGBTQ+ rights and advocacy and positions vary from admin and advocacy to marketing and management – all, however, have social care at their heart.

Charity organisations typically help LGBTQ+ people by providing services such as support groups, helplines, sexual health clinics, advocacy, and workshops to tackle hate crime and discrimination.

At national and international level, they are also instrumental in helping to shape government policy and lobbying for legislative change.

And, finally, let’s not forget that all-important Pride party atmosphere! Organising parades and events is the mission of the events coordinator.

While this isn’t a typical social services position, it is an important role in supporting the LGBTQ+ community – after all, Pride is the highlight of the social calendar!

Events coordinators work tirelessly to ensure everything goes without a hitch. They may also be tasked with sourcing new organisational partners, sourcing and setting up venues and promoting events online and via social media platforms.
