TAG teams chase success for the Construction industry

When we first heard about CSIC last year, we thought it was a new crime-fighting team for construction. It turned out this actually stood for Construction Scotland Innovation Centre, the £10 million facility which launched last October.

Now, a new entry in the Acronyms Rarely Say Everything dictionary, comes the TAG team. Not, rather disappointingly, a dodgeball outfit, but rather Technical Advisory Group, a new ten-person panel of industry experts.

This has been set up as part of CSIC by the Scottish Government, as it seeks to cement Scotland’s construction future by promoting positive change.

Construction in Scotland has always been a big part of the country’s economy, of course. Latest estimates suggest that it employs around 170,000 people and is worth more than £8.7 billion every year.

Now, in TAG, Scotland also has its very own industry-leading industrial and academic resources in the fields of building and construction, just as the CSIC finalises a collaboration agreement with 12 of the country’s top universities.

The SCIC already offers over 31,000 construction businesses in the country access to experts, funding and public support to help maximise their potential.

The TAG team is tasked with the mission of prioritising the best ways to boost the sector. It’s hoped this will lead to more job opportunities and, in tandem, a growth of interest in the industry.

It’s all about finding the best ways that companies and universities can approach construction, and get the most out of the facilities and strengths Scotland has in the sector.

The specialisms covered are Infrastructure, Design and Performance, Advanced Construction & Building Fabric Technologies, Energy and ICT and, last but never least, Environment.

With the TAG experts intent on their individual specialisms, they can help business and the industry focus on the aspects of construction that are most relevant in 2015 and beyond.

And with the SCIC at the helm, it means they can connect with the construction industry at every level, from education, to jobs, to the public sector.

This means the routes taken by the industry will begin to grow opportunities at each level, among every one of the many different jobs areas within construction, boosting the sector now and for the future – and through innovation and generating jobs, offer a snapshot of Scotland at the top the worldwide construction table.

And we’d all love to be TAGGED in that photo.
