It’s been a year of tough questions and tougher answers. From the Clinton-Trump debate to Brexit, some pretty big choices have come to the table.
But there’s one thing that’s kept all of us awake at night: the huge will-he-won’t-he question mark hanging over Matt LeBlanc.
Well, finally we know the answer. The Friends-actor-turned-presenter is taking over the driving seat from Chris Evans at Top Gear.
Why does this matter? Because our love affair with the car is growing stronger than ever.
Take August, a month when half the country is sunning itself in Spain or Florida and the other half is trying to sort out school uniforms – and so never a good time to sell cars. Until now.
More than 81,000 new cars were registered in August this year, that’s up almost 3% on the same time 12 months earlier.
Fleet sales, luxury brands, electric vehicles and vans are leading the points table and what this means is car dealerships at all levels are taking on sales staff to meet demand, driven by rising employment levels and record low finance rates.
The top dealerships all advertise their vacancies on s1jobs, so if you fancy moving into motor sales or you’re already part of a sales team but want to move higher up the career ladder, check in daily to put yourself in the fast lane to the latest opportunities.
Some of these are very tempting. One recent opening for a sales executive offered on target earnings of £38,000, plus a company car, as well as a pension scheme, share options and even a day off on your birthday!
To get this sort of lucrative deal you have to be highly motivated and incredibly professional.
You’ll need to know every performance figure and optional accessory available for the entire range of vehicles your dealership sells.
One thing is sure: there isn’t a question you can think of that a customer won’t ask, particularly when it comes to how alternative fuel vehicles actually work or what choice of seat fabrics are available – and you have to be ready with an answer.
The jury may still be out on Matt LeBlanc as the man at the wheel of what was the nation’s favourite telly show– but this could be the year when you shift your own sales career into top gear.
