These are people whose stories can inspire you to enjoy your very own high-flying career – starting of course with a close look at the fab opportunities on s1jobs.

1. The Goateed Guru

Yes, it’s Richard Branson. Starting with Virgin in 1970 at the tender age of 20, he built no fewer than eight billion-dollar companies in eight different industries.

So how does an entrepreneur who never studied the business of selling become so successful? He believes one of the main reasons is because he has always known the importance of speaking to customers in person.

Richard’s top tip: “It’s great to be tech-savvy but don’t text or email when you should be calling!”

2. Everybody’s Friend

When his pals were still playing cowboys, Dale Carnegie had already begun selling farm products and correspondence courses to wild west ranchers. When he upped sticks to New York City, wannabe sales professionals flocked to his coaching classes, while his book, How To Win Friends and Influence People, remains a cult classic.

Dale’s top tip: “Make sure you take care of your own work-life balance.”

3. Party People Power

When a male colleague she had trained was then promoted above her, Mary Kay Ash was not happy. Quitting her sales job in Dallas she was soon pioneering her own business plan for multilevel marketing – which meant managing an army of sales people selling beauty products and cosmetics to their families and friends, often at home parties.

Mary’s top tip: “Treat others as you want to be treated.”

4. Meet The Motivator

With a name like Zig Ziglar, you’d expect to find this guy playing in a Seventies rock band. In fact, he never wore Spandex or played a Flying V guitar: he was however one of the sales world’s most influential motivational speakers. He is best known for encouraging sales people to never stop learning, training or upskilling.

Zig’s top tip: “Maintain a heightened level of motivation by constantly visualizing success.”
