The opening this month of the new Queensferry Crossing brings a grand finale to one of the largest infrastructure projects in Scottish history.
But even before the Champagne corks had popped, another massive construction project was already underway in the Highlands.
The task of dualling 80 miles of the A9 from Perth to Inverness will cost a whopping £3 billion.
In total 11 sections of the road through the heart of Scotland will be upgraded and this will involve building new bridges and underpasses.
Construction companies have been invited to bid for some of the first stages and it will take a major workforce to see the dangerous bends and blind overtaking sections replaced with a safe route connecting Central Scotland with the Highlands.

Better transport routes are a wolf whistle for housebuilders across Scotland to get into action . . . and with so many pieces of the jigsaw now being completed, including electrification of the main rail route between Glasgow and Edinburgh, a housing boom could be on the way.
