Stay on target this season

You could be the top performing sales person in your company but the weeks ahead will be your most challenging.

Lots of things are a tough sell at this time of the year and it takes extra effort, real ability and sometimes a little bit of luck to make the numbers.

On s1jobs you can find sales vacancies across many different sectors and, while a few are ‘season proof’, most will follow a fluctuating graph across the year, with high spots and low spells.

So what are the toughest sales jobs right now . . . and how can you make the drawbacks work to your advantage?

Homes

With Christmas looming, even the most dedicated house hunter will put their search on hold. And it isn’t just the distractions of parties and shopping that get in the way.

Most viewings will take place after dark, which is no way to assess a neighbourhood, interior light levels or outdoor space.

Find your selling points: With fewer numbers to deal with, you’ve the time to really invest in clients.

Help them to present their property at its best. And to get to know buyers. Find out what they really want and suggest properties they might not otherwise have considered.

Cars

Only a very few lucky people will wake up to a new car on Christmas morning so dealership showrooms can sometimes feel like the Marie Celeste this month and next.

Find your selling points: Icy weather is the ideal time to sell four-wheel-drives, so now’s the time to work your contacts.

Call previous customers to let them know of deals and special offers and offer extended test drives so they can experience the benefits of a car that’s been designed for winter driving.

Gym memberships

Even the most dedicated gym-goers fall by the wayside in the darker nights so this is a tough time to persuade anyone to swap their party gear for gym kit and trainers.

Find your selling points: It takes the guilt out of stuffing yourself with turkey, if you’ve already put in some calorie-burning sessions on a rowing machine.

So persuade potential members that if they have their induction with an instructor and warm-up with a few easy classes this side of Christmas, then by January their fitness resolution will be much easier to stick to.
