Summer glam for Glasgow

Show all Hospitality/Catering/Tourism jobs in Scotland

Summer is almost with us and businesses across the country are gearing up for the influx of tourists, all eager to sample the best in Scottish hospitality – from hot cuisine and fine whisky to the coolest culture.

Hospitality_2_SmallDemand for skilled catering and hospitality staff is at a peak during this season, with opportunities ranging from temporary to permanent and part-time to full-time.

We all know the Edinburgh Festival steals the limelight when it comes to summer fun but there are roles available across all of Scotland.

This year Glasgow in particular has a lot to offer tourists and job seekers. So, get ready for a sizzling summer as we guide you through five fabulous events.

The European Championships

Kicking off on the 2nd of August, Glasgow will play host to 10 days of thrilling sports, sure to rival the city’s Commonwealth glory. With everything from cycling to gymnastics on offer, an action-packed programme is promised. Not only will it energise the city, but the economic boost will prove bountiful for the hospitality sector.

Piping Live/The World Pipe Band Championships

Although technically two events, both these piping parties overlap – meaning from the 13-19th August, Glasgow will be awash with the sound of bagpipes. Over 50,000 fans are anticipated, as well as 200 international bands. Could there be any greater brand ambassador than a kilted piper?

The Glasgow Summer Sessions

A firm fixture in the events calendar since 2013, this year’s August 22-29 festival in Bellahouston Park features rockers King of Leon, NERD (super-producer Pharrell’s group, FYI) and Pulitzer-winning prodigy Kendrick Lamar.

TRNSMT

Set over two weekends on Glasgow Green in June and July, TRNSMT boasts some of the biggest names in the music business, including Queen & Adam Lambert, The Killers, Stereophonics and The Arctic Monkeys. And, if you’re into catering, you’ll know nothing goes better with festivals than the right food, the right libations and a comfy bed at the end of all that dancing.

Paul Simon

Of all the huge acts bringing their tours to Glasgow this summer – including Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake and Bruno Mars – Paul Simon is the one we’re most excited about. A class act that frankly needs no introduction, he’s set to play the SECC on July 11 as part of his final ever tour.
