We don’t do politics at s1jobs we do jobs. But we couldn’t help but notice this month has been rather irksome for the Prime Minister.

HR_1If any more MPs resign from her top team, she may be off to Ikea for a new cabinet.

In the business world it’s a top priority for an HR Manager to keep the team together – not only working alongside one another but with clear and shared goals.

Of course, there are ways to make staff retention and motivation that little bit easier.

Great expectations

No-one likes being left in limbo, having to guess what their real mission is. Not offering direction or constantly changing expectations creates stress or apathy or both.

An HR Manager can work with employees to ensure they are happy with their job remit and feel confident about fulfilling tasks.

The only way is up

Worse than being left in limbo is being left on the bottom rung. Promotion is a natural part of everyone’s career but if employees are not able to move up then chances are they’ll move out.

Employee assessments should always include opportunities to take on more challenging tasks and aim for promoted roles.

Mutual appreciation

When staff feel appreciated they naturally want to go the extra mile for the company. A little thank you can go a long way. Of course bonuses, raises, perks and staff discounts can go even further.

When offered the right rewards, you’ll soon find staff become more enthusiastic to achieve goals and, at the same time, boost business for the company.

Sharing is caring

How far does your HR strategy go in involving employees in shaping the future of the company and contributing to business growth?

Proactively inviting input and suggestions for fresh ways of doing things creates a culture of inclusion and ambition.

Well, well, well

Offering in-house ways to help people stay well and free from fatigue and stress not only shows how much the HR team values employees, it will also help keep them.

Offering incentives such as healthy food options rather than vending machines, discounted gym membership and chill-out areas in the office all help boost that important feel-good factor.
