A recent report by the Fraser of Allander Institute and the University of Strathclyde suggests the industry is worth £1.7 billion to the Scottish economy annually and employs upwards of 5000 people.

Popularity
Directly employing more than 5000 staff, the sector in Scotland is also responsible for the indirect employment of around 17,500 workers in associated industries.
