These are just a few of the reasons why.

Secret superheroes

As we marvel at the new Queensferry Crossing or embrace the latest mobile phone technology, we don’t always recognise or give credit to the people behind them: the engineers.

Every major development or discovery requires the input of focussed yet unsung professionals, who keep their superhero vests hidden from view.

Paid innovators

Imagine trying to solve a problem that has proved too difficult for everyone else or approaching an engineering challenge in a way that hasn’t tried before – that’s engineering in a nutshell.

Satellites, 3D printing and medical robotics are just some of the areas likely to see huge strides in innovation in the next few years.

Problem solvers

Engineering is one of the few career options that spans every sector, from sport to space, and with that comes the opportunity to find solutions to some of the world’s biggest issues.

Agriculture, climate change, AI and cyber security all need the input of our best engineering brains to discover creative solutions to real problems.

History makers

Engineers – especially civil engineers – get the opportunity to leave a professional thumbprint on the world. How cool to think you could leave behind something that will be seen and admired for years to come.

This is a thought made even more awesome when that something is as big as a bridge, road network or massive construction project.
