We’ve just marked Halloween and The Day of the Dead, a time when the spirits of those who’ve passed over are rumoured to rise again.
But it isn’t just vampires that climb out of their coffins – some retail brands have done the same.
On s1jobs there are opportunities to work in Retail with both new and established names, so we’ve checked the vital signs of some classic brands that have been brought back to life to see if they are still breathing.
Habitat
Cool, clever and affordable, Habitat was an instant sensation when it was launched in 1964 by Sir Terence Conran. It’s stripped-down style and iconic spaghetti jars reflected the new appetite for casual living, foreign holidays and Mediterranean cooking.
Now, after many ups and downs, the closure of its stores and the sale in September to the Sainsbury’s group, the Habitat name is on the rise again.
Find it instore in selected branches of Sainsbury’s, at Argos and online.
Prognosis: The signs are good for a full recovery. If you’re keen on a role as a Sales Assistant or even a Store Manager, do it in style with a brand like this.
Littlewoods
With its glossy catalogue that allowed buyers to pay in installments, Littlewoods was one of the pioneers of home shopping.
When the last of its shops finally closed in 2005, the Littlewoods name went online and got itself a celebrity brand ambassador in the shapely shape of Myleen Klass. Since then it can do no wrong: selling sparkly frocks, sportswear, household goods and electricals to a loyal customer base, backed up by the promise of free delivery and free returns.
And you can still spread the cost interest free. Well that’s the Littlewoods’ touch.
Prognosis: Thriving. This success story explains why there are so many great opportunities to work in online Retail.
Jessops
The history of this camera retailer is like a snapshot of the High Street. Immensely popular with photography professionals and budding amateur snappers, by 2013 it was struggling badly and finally went into administration.
But then along came a friendly big dragon, Peter Jones, who has been building the online brand and re-opening stores. At the last count there were no fewer than 52.
Prognosis: Making a spirited comeback. This is a great reason to put yourself in the frame for all the best Retail vacancies with s1jobs.
