Consider a career in Quality Control

When it comes to snuffling out the best chocolates, no one can work through a tin of Quality Street as fast as Granny Ina. She can hone in on a strawberry centre at ten paces.

If you too are a stickler for detail and only happy with the highest standards, a career in Quality Control could play to your strengths.

Let’s examine the current roles to find your perfect fit.

Quality Administrator

The duties of Quality Administrator will vary according to the industry you’re working in, but will generally involve providing admin support to the team or individual responsible for Quality Assurance.

As with any admin job, being methodical and an organisational whizz is essential.

The role often involves completing evidence and control checks, as well as carrying out audits on documentation, to ensure that all of the information is accurate and up to date.

You may be the first point of contact for any Quality Assurance questions that arise, as well as being responsible for ensuring that all staff training needs are met and workplace certifications are kept up to date.

Quality Control Inspector

A Quality Assurance or Quality Control Inspector examines products for any defects or deviations from specifications set by the business itself or the wider industry. Every manufactured product has a quality standard to meet and inspectors are responsible for the final set of checks before a product is sent into the wider world.

They may need to verify all incoming components, too, and check that they match orders and meet the necessary specifications.

Inspectors record their results, run tests and prepare reports of any product defects they find. They can also make recommendations to improve the production process to ensure that only the highest standards are met.

Quality Manager

Production operatives who have gained experience elsewhere in a company or an industry can move into a Quality Manager’s role. Again, your specific duties will vary widely according to your chosen field but, broadly speaking, you will ensure the production process meets national standards and that the business is working as efficiently as possible.

It’s your job to ensure the product meets customers’ expectations, is consistent in quality and meets all of its legal requirements.

As a manager and people person, you must also ensure that all parts of the business work together to ensure standards are met at every stage of manufacturing.
