Don’t be the office Grinch

Just like the busy big man in red, there’s no let-up over the festive period for call and contact centre staff.

callcentre2Whatever the employment sector – from insurance to customer service to travel agents – there are burst pipes, boiler breakdowns, late deliveries, and even 2019 holidays to deal with.

But before you feel yourself come over all green and grumpy, there’s no need to be the office Grinch about Christmas.

It really can be the most wonderful time of the year . . . so give your career a boost and try not to get your tinsel in a twist about it.

Lighten up!

The Christmas tree has been up since November and those flashing lights and bouncing baubles are really getting on your nerves. But you have to admit it does bring a bit of colour to the office.

Working in a call or contact centre often means being fully in the moment for customers and callers – so enjoy this one while you can. You’ll miss it when it’s gone in grey, bleak January.

Party on!

When working in a call or contact centre it’s important to recognise the value of teamwork – and this means forging new friendships.

So don’t be tempted to duck out of the office party. It’s possibly the best time of the year to find social barriers are broken down and you get to see colleagues in a different light.

And remember witnessing their dancefloor antics is going to be conversation gold for the next 12 months.

Loosen the reins!

You may still be working over the holidays, but many companies take a more relaxed approach over the Christmas period. Even Rudolf gets to chill and eat carrots.

So take advantage of the chance to dress down or finish work a bit earlier because, come the New Year, it’ll be back to business as usual and you need to be refreshed and raring to go.

Give a little!

From carol singing and charity raffles to the Secret Santa gift exchange, giving a little of your time and money can make a big difference – not only to the wider community but to the morale of the entire call centre team.

If it’s not taken too seriously – and it’s not too expensive – it can bring a bit of banter and amusement between those broken boiler calls.
