The opening this month of the new Queensferry Crossing brings a grand finale to one of the largest infrastructure projects in Scottish history.

But even before the Champagne corks had popped, another massive construction project was already underway in the Highlands.

Construction_2The task of dualling 80 miles of the A9 from Perth to Inverness will cost a whopping £3 billion.

In total 11 sections of the road through the heart of Scotland will be upgraded and this will involve building new bridges and underpasses.

Construction companies have been invited to bid for some of the first stages and it will take a major workforce to see the dangerous bends and blind overtaking sections replaced with a safe route connecting Central Scotland with the Highlands.

That’s great news for motorists but it’s also great news for construction pros like you – better roads mean better job prospects.

There’s now fresh demand for workers from all sectors to help complete the task and many of the vacancies this project is creating can be found on s1jobs.

And we should bear in mind it’s not just the civil engineering community who are set to benefit from Scotland’s improved transport links.

In other parts of the country – including the Borders with its new railway, and Kilmarnock with the M77 – a housebuilding boom has followed better connections, so we can expect to see this happen across the central Highlands.

In fact, a whole new community is already planned for the outskirts of Perth, while in Inverness thousands of new homes are in the pipeline.

And don’t be surprised to see a similar upturn in house building in Fife now the problem of congestion across the Forth, which prevented many Edinburgh commuters from living north of the river, has been solved.

Better transport routes are a wolf whistle for housebuilders across Scotland to get into action . . . and with so many pieces of the jigsaw now being completed, including electrification of the main rail route between Glasgow and Edinburgh, a housing boom could be on the way.

All of this is front page good news if you are a plasterer, brickie, electrician, plumber, labourer, joiner or work in any of the building trades.

But the real headline is we can help you make the most of the opportunities opening up along Scotland’s upgraded transport routes – for all the latest Construction vacancies simply visit s1jobs.com
