Show all Hospitality/Catering/Tourism jobs across Scotland
Once upon a time – though not long, long ago – perceptions of Scotland were based on Hollywood movies like Brigadoon and pictures of Highland coos on shortbread tins.
Then we moved on to Trainspotting and images of deep fried mars bars! Though we’re not sure that was actually an improvement.
Now, however, Scotland is leading the world in a hi-tech way to promote ourselves and boost tourism.
We’re talking about a new augmented reality (AR) app made by Edinburgh-based agency Whitespace for the £6 million ‘Scotland is Now’ marketing campaign.
Step Into Scotland allows people all over the world to experience the country through their smartphones.
The project is the result of a partnership with Visit Scotland, the Scottish Government, Scottish Enterprise and Universities Scotland, along with internet giant Google.
Through the magical art of 360-degree videos, photographs and voiceovers, users can visit a variety of destinations.
Their journey can take them all over the country where they can discover beautiful natural scenery, historic architecture, culture and, of course, lots of food and drink.
Anyone for a virtual dram from one Scotland’s popular distilleries? Slainte!
s1jobs has Stepped Into Scotland . . . here are just two of our favourite places.
Ben Nevis
For walkers, mountaineers and adventure purists this is peak perfection. But we don’t want to simply trudge up and down the mountain on foot.
Why not return instead by paramotor, as the app launches you in your magnificent flying machine from the summit and offers breathtaking, panoramic views of the surrounding mountains?
If you want to reach the top in hospitality, perhaps as a hotel manager or head chef, you’ll need nerves of steel and the ability to see the big picture.
Virtual paramotoring is perfect for practising both.
North Coast 500
As if by magic, the app will take you along this 516-mile scenic route, which is Scotland’s far superior version of America’s Route 66.
But hold on tight: we’re going by motorbike!
This is the ideal AR journey for anyone wanting to learn more about Scotland’s incredible scenery – and many stopping off points such as hotels, castles and golf courses.
This also makes it ideal for anyone aiming for a top job as a travel agent, tour guide or in customer service.
