No matter which part of the hospitality industry you work in, late night shifts are almost impossible without the magical rejuvenating powers of a takeaway pizza.
Now pizzas are also going to be instrumental in helping tomorrow’s generation of hospitality and catering professionals.
Working in partnership with the ITC Academy, Pizza Hut has launched its first ever Modern Apprenticeship Programme in Scotland.
The restaurant chain, which has committed itself to creating 250 new apprenticeships over the next five years, says it plans to provide apprentices with the best “training and development, offering them skills for life, not just for working in a restaurant”.
The apprenticeships will be from Level 2 to 3 and cover a range of areas, including Food Production and Cooking and Hospitality Supervision and Leadership.
Pick premier league positions
It seems to be a great time to promote the power of apprenticeships. Pizza Hut’s announcement comes hot on the heels of Premier Inn announcing it is on track to train 150 apprentices in Scotland following the launch of its Modern Apprenticeship Programme last October.
The hotel chain announced it will take on 32 more school leaver apprentices as part of Scottish Apprenticeship Week.
Premier Inn also hailed the Modern Apprenticeship Programme, developed in partnership with ITC Academy and Skills Development Scotland, a huge success.
The 12-month programme gives apprentices hospitality sector experience in working towards recognised hospitality industry Level 2 qualifications.
Step up a gear in your career
The Scottish Borders is planning to boost tourism in the region with a five-year strategy to make it the UK’s number one cycling destination.
A look at infrastructure throughout the region aims to pinpoint key areas for improvement, with upgrades to cycle routes and better signposting.
The Scottish Borders is already home to a number of cycling events but it hopes to bring in even more, with a budget of £50,000 being put in place to help attract more international and national competitions.
If successful, this means the prospect of new and varied job opportunities in the hospitality sector. After all, cyclists need good food and drink, not to mention a soft bed for their tired limbs.
There may even be scope for bike lovers to act as tour guides for visitors.
