Learn from the funniest on screen job interviews

If you’re looking for a position as an HR Assistant, you’re going to have to master the art of allowing your talents to shine through at interviews.

Similarly, if you’re looking to land promotion to a top role as HR Manager, you’ll have to master being in control of interviews and interviewees, especially when they look like veering way off track.

Well, just like most things in life, the best way to learn how to do interviews right is to see what happens when they’re done spectacularly wrong.

That’s why we’ve brought together the funniest movie scenes where it’s all gone a bit Pete Tong.

So grab the popcorn, sit back and learn from the worst!

Good Will Hunting

When Will (Matt Damon) sends Chuckie (Ben Affleck) to a job interview in his place we get comedy gold – and the interview from hell. First Chuckie is inappropriately dressed in half-mast breeks and trainers. He talks over his interviewers, mixes strange metaphors and even demands on-the-spot cash as a retainer.

Lessons? There’s a thin line between confidence and arrogance. And never let your dress sense be the thing you’re remembered for.

Step Brothers

Another bad clothes day as Will Ferrell turns up for a role as a toilet cleaner dressed in a Seventies tuxedo. It seems impossible but the interview actually manages to go downhill from here. Will’s step brother (John C. Reilly) has sneaked into the room to offer support yet neither of them can even remember the interviewer’s name.

Lesson? Always do your homework on the role, the company and your interviewer.

Borat

We dare anyone to sit through this movie without more than once covering their eyes in shock or groaning in embarrassment. Sasha Baron Cohen’s comic creation is a 24/7 lesson in offensive behaviour but his interview skills reach a brand new low when it’s discovered all of his references are from dead people.

Lesson? Make sure your CV is right up to date and includes the living.

The Internship

In today’s digitally connected world, some employers have embraced the opportunities offered by the video link interview. Unfortunately, Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson have not. Their attempts to be hired by Google are hindered by an inability to set up the tech. When the link is established, things aren’t in any way saved by their unrehearsed babbling.

Lesson? Whether your interview is face to face or over the internet, always be prepared and always rehearse your lines.
