While there is much positivity coming down the pipeline for the Oil & Gas industry in Scotland, there are already good news stories happening right now.
These are the developments currently shaping the sector – and offering great potential for revitalised recruitment.
So let’s find out more.
Field of dreams
The Culzean field was first discovered in 2008 and, in the midst of the downturn, it has emerged as a beacon of optimism for the UK oil and gas industry.
Maersk, which owns almost 50% of the field, announced in February that it has revolutionised its project while reducing the capital costs.
Culzean, which is about 250km east of Aberdeen, is renowned for being a complex high-pressure, high-temperature field.
As such it supports highly skilled roles with distinct areas of expertise, such as highly trained maintenance, gas and design engineers.
And, with the field now expected to reach 5% of the UK’s gas demand by 2021, we suspect there will be plenty more jobs to shout about.
Mariner magic
Heading North, Statoil has given an update on its ongoing operations in the Mariner field to the East of Shetland. The prognosis? An estimated 1500 extra offshore jobs.
Up to 800 people will be involved in the commissioning, hook-up and readying of the field. A further 700 will land permanent roles, such as those in rig operation, maintenance, engineering, management and general deck work.
It’s an exciting time for everyone as one of the largest projects on the UK Continental Shelf edges ever closer to bringing oil to shore.
Innovation at work
Well-Safe Solutions has devised a method for the safe and cost-efficient decommissioning of wells that utilises the immense amount of North Sea talent already in the country.
The Aberdeen-based start-up has announced it can offer a complete well P&A service, helping operators save cash by removing the need to hire multiple suppliers.
It hopes to raise £200 million in investment and create 400 jobs to support the new process.
With such renewed optimism in the North Sea sector being hollered from all corners of the production fields, it’s important companies and employees move forward together.
We may still have a long way to go to get back to the boom time days but, like Granny Ina always says: always take the good news when it comes.
