Retail is the centre of attention

St Catherine’s Retail Park has long been the stomping ground of chic shoppers and big bargain hunters, but plans for a £10 million facelift are set to attract even more shoppers to Perth – generating up to 100 new jobs in the process.

The proposal involves tearing down an old warehouse and replacing it with five big-name brand shops and a restaurant.

We can see it now, dahlings; London, Paris, Milan, Perth.

Such investment in retail is big news so today we’re looking at Scotland’s Big Three retail hubs and the kinds of jobs you can expect to find there.

Braehead

A combination of London’s Oxford Street and an Alpine skiing holiday, Braehead is a retail, business and pleasure park rolled into one.

Besides your usual retail, retail management and related store jobs, it also supports specialist roles in skiing, rock climbing and adventure at its famous intu centre.

The surrounding areas of Renfrewshire also offer office space, which in turn supports a range of customer service, HR and sales jobs.

Silverburn

Silverburn is just like the famous Dubai Mall, only with more Glaswegian character and less extravagant indulgence – so no ceiling-high fish tanks.

At a whopping one million square feet, it’s nearly twice the size of Braehead, more than three times the size of Edinburgh’s Gyle and 13 times the size of Hampden Park’s football pitch. This explains why an army of 3000 retail staff is needed to support its shops and restaurants.

Whether it’s a role as a sales rep, retail assistant or store manager, Silverburn’s size means it’s always generating new opportunities.

The Gyle

First opened in 1993, the Gyle is west of the City of Edinburgh and is home to a range of high-end and big-name shops, services and supermarkets. Given its location, over the past 20 years the Gyle has grown to be a mecca of shopping for residents and visitors.

As well as supporting jobs in retail, sales and management, it’s also surrounded by businesses with opportunities to join world-class IT and customer services.
