What sales sectors are going to be big in 2015?

The strength of the sales team is just as vital to a company’s overall success as its products or services.

As we shake off winter and shiver into the spring of 2015, companies will be looking to hire the best sales people, so it’s important to identify what sectors are gearing up for a big 2015 and why.

It pays to know which sales sectors are set to grown in 2015

First off, we should point out Scotland’s a great place for selling stuff, especially stuff that, on the face of it, might seem unsellable: Haggis, an opening ceremony with John Barrowman in a tartan suit and Information Technology.

Yes, it’s true: not only can Scotland shift offal stuffed into a sheep’s stomach (that’s the haggis not John), it is also a leading light in IT development globally, with commercial and political interest in the development of new software, hardware and IT. This year it’s going to pay to keep your eyes on the IT firms.

There’s fresh interest in agricultural tech too, with big money deals lined up on distribution and materials.

The financial services sales sector has also had a bright start to 2015. Our poor wee bankers haven’t had a very good time of it at all recently and in many ways they’ve still got a jaggier public profile than a Swiss Toblerone.

However, with people spending and the promise of more open and honest policies, the sector is looking to re-establish itself as a key and trusted part of the economy. In banks as everywhere else, it’s all about those sales, baby!

There’s one kind of sales market that sees more ups and downs than a see-saw.

That’s the property market. Have no fear, potential homebuyers and homeowners and everyone else involved the business of bricks and mortar, restructured estimation strategies and a steadily improving market have already set this sector up for a strong 2015. Property looks safe as houses.

And finally, a big drum roll please . . .

Since it’s everywhere else, let’s give engineering a mention. It’s everywhere for good reason. The sector has been growing year on year and so have the sales involved. This year looks to be its best yet.

The complexity of this sector – where sales involve securing big contracts on big projects and with big money – means knowledge on your chosen specialism is essential, along with that silver tongue that’s taken you this far.

Remember, where there’s silver, there’s gold.
