Results show that the average 2014 salary for employees in Inverness is £27,063, while Edinburgh occupies top spot among Scottish cities, paying an average salary of £32,095. Of course, these differences are also influenced by the industry sectors that are strongest in each area. That contributes towards Aberdeen offering the 2nd best average salary in our research, a figure that also saw a 5.07% rise this year – while Glasgow, Inverness and Edinburgh all saw falls in average annual salaries.
So, could it pay to relocate? Well, accountancy pays an average of £4000 per year more in Edinburgh and £5000 per year more in Aberdeen than it does in Glasgow. On the flipside of that, IT jobs in Aberdeen pay £6000 less annually on average than in Edinburgh or Glasgow.
Many sectors from production and manufacturing to IT vary across the country in the average salary stakes, so if this left you wondering if you could be earning more, why not have a look at our jobs board and find out?
