Take the stress out of finance

The world of financial services can be pretty stressful. After all, when you’re dealing with money – often very large sums of money that lots of people are relying on – making mistakes is a big no-no!

Financial_ServicesThankfully, a growing number of employers in the public, private and non-profit sectors are coming up with new ways to make financial workplaces calmer, more supportive and ultimately, of course, more productive.

Here at s1jobs we’re all about promoting health and happiness in the workplace.

So, if you want to learn how to chill like a pro, here are our top tips.

Yoga classes

It may be 3,000 years old but only recently has yoga found its way into the workplace. Classes can be held before the office day begins or during lunch breaks – don’t forget to eat that mixed bean salad afterwards not before! The benefits range from reduced aches and pains from sitting at a desk or bank counter to lower burnout rates. It’s hard to feel stressed when you’re doing the Downward Facing Dog.

Standing Desks

The styles may vary from raised tables to floating platforms but the end goal is the same: a great way to reduce the amount of time we spend sitting on our bahookies. A standing desk also improves posture and can be a great way to burn extra calories. It’s best balanced with spells of sitting, however, as we don’t want to encourage varicose veins!

Showers

Yes, simply introducing a shower and changing room quickly encourages staff to get more physical exercise. The idea of cycling or jogging to work can be tempting; the idea of sitting in sweaty clothes for the rest of the day not so much. Power shower your way to good health!

Gardens

Not every workplace can enjoy the rejuvenating qualities of a garden. But even a break-out area filled with plants, greenery and flowers can enhance the environment. It also acts as a mini-oasis, encouraging workers to leave their screens and spreadsheets occasionally and catch up amid the fragrance of an Angel’s Trumpet.

Join the club

A financial institution’s biggest asset is not its cash but its employees so anything that can help them bond and relax will benefit both. Some forward-thinking firms have started book clubs, others run mindfulness classes. A quick poll will find out what interests could be shared.
