If you want qualifications that will open any number of doors, one of the best ways of securing your future is to study nursing.

medical 1With their unique skill set, nurses are always in demand . . . and not just on hospital wards or in GP surgeries.

There are countless ways to use your qualifications and, with a bit of extra training, you can choose from one of the many specialisms of the profession – such as mental health and midwifery.

But why stop there? Nurses work on film sets and on board cruise ships. Some deliver occupational health in a workplace setting and others provide vaccinations and advice through travel clinics.

From the frontline of A&E to operating theatres and intensive care units, nurses with specialist training deliver essential services – and the same is true on children’s wards and in geriatric settings.

Or would you rather be out and about as a district nurse, visiting people in their homes when they’ve been discharged from hospital or need care with long-term conditions?

Perhaps you are fascinated by the field of pain management or diabetes? There are options to move your career into these areas.

Why not become an educator and train the next generation to enter the nursing profession?

All the armed forces have nursing divisions and some nurses work as special advisors to government departments, providing valuable input, based on real life experience, into policy and decisions.

Because of the demand for trained nurses, many health boards offer flexible working options and there is an on-going need for agency nurses who can fill in current gaps in staffing.

In fact, there are few other professions that offer such variety or flexibility.

While the work is always demanding it is also hugely rewarding. You have the chance to make patients feel better, whatever their situation, and your people skills will be valued just as highly by those you treat as your qualifications.

Their families, too, will appreciate your care and attention.

On s1jobs you can find countless opportunities to use your nursing skills, wherever you live. The demand is always there and – even if you have been out of the profession for some time – you will be welcomed back.

Where are your qualifications going to take you? As a nurse the world is in your own hands.
