Transport yourself into a new career

Glasgow is set to ban old bangers from the city centre in a bid to clean up on air pollution. No, not you, Granny Ina: cars!

Retail_1The aim is make the city a healthier place for residents. Where Scotland’s biggest city leads, other towns will follow and drivers of automobiles of any vintage could find themselves marooned on the outskirts and looking for new ways to get into city centres to go shopping.

For retailers of low-emission vehicles this represents a unique opportunity to gain a bigger foothold with a mix of old school solutions and innovative new forms of transport.

At s1jobs we love a retail sector that has the get-up-and-go factor so, if you want to get ahead, here are a few ideas to get you going.

E-bikes

Getting around on two wheels is easier when you’ve battery power to help you with the hills. E-bikes are becoming a familiar sight on our streets and one manufacturer, Volt, says it now sells 50,000 a year.

Microcars

Even the Mini looks like a monster compared to the latest microcars – tiny one or two-person vehicles. Most mainstream manufacturers have microcars in the pipeline but new names such as Microcar are already muscling in.

Segway

The original model is still around but now there are hover board versions and electric scooters that allow you to glide through the streets. Most challenging for beginners is the Ninebot, a motorised wheel. Think extreme unicycling and you’ll get the picture.

Rollerblades

Speed shopping! With blades customers can get around stores fast and don’t need to worry about parking spaces or bike locks. Sling your blades in a bag and you can switch from transport to comfy shoes in the time it takes to tie your laces.

Bikes

Once bike shops occupied out-of-town sheds but now they’re popping up in prime retail positions – perfect spots for capturing disgruntled commuters. Savvy bike shop managers are also offering storage solutions, so apartment-dwellers don’t have to clog up the stairwell.

Mobility scooters

Studies in the US predict a 5% yearly rise in mobility scooter sales. New models are compact, easy to store and have good battery life so users can go further between recharges.

Walking

It’s the original and best form of transport, offering the benefits of a healthy heart, better moods, good muscle tone and stronger bones. So, why not get your walking boots on and stroll into a new career with the top Retail roles from s1jobs?
