We are looking to appoint a Deputy Head of Procurement to our highly skilled and customer focused Procurement Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the development and delivery of commercial strategies and contracts.

The post holder will bring to the role their extensive experience as a high calibre procurement professional to influence change at both operational and strategic level.  The role demands a track record in delivering savings and cost improvement, innovation, an eye for detail, high level of understanding of audit and compliance needs, and a keen sense of value as well as strategic ability.

Crucial to the role will be the ability to take lead responsibility for critical elements of the delivery of NHS Lothians Procurement Strategy and a lead role in the delivery of best practice commercial practice, providing mentoring, advice and guidance on best strategic, tactical options within the prevailing legislative framework to the departments lead Officers and Buyers.  

Operating at significant scale and pace you will work closely with NHS Lothians Associate Director of Procurement contributing to leading continuous improvement and value for the Board aligning agreed Procurement Strategy with the Boards Corporate Plans.
We are seeking someone who will bring innovation as well as imagination to the role to ensure that it is a modern, effective and fit for purpose service within a framework of class-leading capability levels. 

Candidates will require to demonstrate a high level of interpersonal, strategic, and technical skills. The post holder will have a demonstrable leadership style, be able to earn the confidence and respect necessary to bring about added value to procurement strategies/practices.  Excellent negotiation skills and the ability to operate and influence stakeholders at all levels of the Board are further requisites of the job.

The post holder will have the stature to be able to influence across and beyond the organisation and will require collaborative and collegiate working at a national and regional levels with senior NHS Scotland colleagues in developing collaborative strategies and polices and to represent NHS Lothian on national and regional projects.

Educated to degree level or equivalent management qualification in Procurement and Supply e.g. CIPS Professional Diploma, and at least 5 years experience with a demonstrable track record of success in procurement and supply management within a large, complex, service-led organisation preferably within Health and Social Care or comparable Public/Private sector organisations.
