NHS Lothian Pharmacy & Medicines Service

Royal Edinburgh Hospital

Specialist Clinical Pharmacist

Band 7 - 37 hours - Permanent

(public holiday working and on-call commitment)

£46,244 - £53,789

NHS Lothian covers Edinburgh city, East Lothian, Midlothian and West Lothian. We are the second largest health system in NHS Scotland and one of only four teaching Boards. We have strategic partnerships with local Universities, Local Authorities and our four Integration Joint Boards. We serve a population of 900,000, providing a range of primary, community based and acute hospital services. We also provide regional and national services across a range of clinical specialties.

The vision for the Pharmacy & Medicines service is to deliver clinically led, person-centred services to ensure patients across Lothian get the best from their medicines and pharmacy services.  We are focussed on creating an environment where each person in the team has the opportunity to flourish, develop and make best use of their skills.

This is an exciting time to be joining Mental Health Pharmacy in Lothian. NHS Lothian Pharmacy services are developing new roles and planning for significant service redesign, with investment into community mental health services planned over the next year.

We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic pharmacist to join the pharmacy team delivering the highest quality pharmacy services across these areas.  The post holder will contribute to the development and delivery of the clinical pharmacy service.  The post holder will be a key member of the multidisciplinary Older Peoples Community Mental Health Teams within the Health & Social Care Partnerships and support delivery of pharmaceutical care to identified inpatient beds and across the interface; where pharmacists have an established non-medical prescribing role. This post will be key to supporting the development of the service.

Candidates must have a Master of Pharmacy Degree or equivalent, be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), and should have completed or have equivalent competence mapped to the RPS post-registration foundation pharmacist curriculum

Ideally, candidates will have experience pro-actively influencing prescribing and will have gained experience working in a patient focussed environment using their knowledge and skills to improve patient care and promote optimal outcomes from medicines.
