Full Job Description

NHS Lothian

Consultant Dermatopathologist

Western General Hospital

NHS Lothian is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best.

To this end, NHS Lothian welcomes applications from all sections of society.

We will fully support disabled candidates, and candidates with long-term conditions or who are neurodivergent by making reasonable adjustments to our recruitment policy and practices.

Consultant only if applicable:

Applicants must have full GMC Registration, a license to practise and eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview. Portfolio Pathway (formerly known as CESR - Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) route doctors are only eligible to apply for a substantive consultant post once it has been awarded. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.

Applications are welcome for the above Permanent, full time (40 hours per week) post based in Western General Hospital.

Histopathology services across Lothian (Edinburgh) are organised as an integrated service with Consultant Pathologists being members of one or more teams working at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and the Western General Hospital.  This new post has been created to support our busy dermatopathology service.  NHS Lothian Pathology and the University of Edinburgh collaborate on a portfolio of research activities, and a range of opportunities would be available to the successful applicant.  The potential to take a leading role in service delivery would be available to a suitably experienced candidate.  A contribution to the wider Lothian Service is also possible, depending on the interests of the appointee and the requirements of the service.  Candidates wishing to work less than full time could also be accommodated.

Candidates must hold FRCPath in Histopathology, (or equivalent qualification) and be on the specialist register or be within 6 months of obtaining CCST on the day of interview.
