Full Job Description
You will be line managed within CAMHS Psychology and will have access to NHS professional learning resources, training and regular supervision. These posts are integrated within the multidisciplinary CAMHS team therefore you will have opportunities to observe, discuss and undertake a wide range of clinically and wider professionally relevant tasks. The Assistant Psychology roles support the service in our improvement plans (co-creation of documents, web-content, data & audit work, literature and web-searches, piloting new processes). They contribute to direct clinical care by undertaking individual or joint assessment components across several workstreams (learning disability, neurodiversity, mental health) in clinic and community settings. They also contribute through brief intervention work or co-provision of groups under supervision and alongside qualified colleagues. The Assistants also work on joint tasks and several rotas for core CAMHS tasks together (such as Triaging referrals) which further underpins a multidisciplinary and peer to peer learning environment. We are a multidisciplinary integrated CAMHS and ND service with a positive culture and a broad remit working up to 18 years of age. We provide; support, consultation and coaching for community partners, a neurodevelopmental assessment and treatment pathway which includes learning disability, Tier 3 multidisciplinary and psychological interventions, and intensive community treatment. Our team includes Clinical Psychologists, Clinical Associates in Applied Psychology (CAAPs), Psychiatrists, CPNs, Specialist nurses, sessional SLT, all supported by Administrative staff (and a Therapet or two). We have Trainee CAAPs and Clinical Psychologists on placement regularly throughout the year. These posts should again provide an excellent place in which to ground a career in psychology in the NHS. These posts are based at the Andrew Lang Unit, Selkirk but we use numerous locality bases and spend significant amounts of time in schools throughout the region. Our Assistant Psychology jobplans currently support a small amount of working from home (perhaps 1 day a week) but the roles are fundamentally in-person at our base and in schools and locality venues throughout the Scottish Borders and therefore a driving licence and use of a car is almost essential. CAMHS Assistant Psychologists often work a half or full day in another specialty (most commonly Adult LD and Paediatrics). An Assistant Psychologists' peer group links across NHSB Psychology specialities. The Borders is a beautiful rural catchment with small towns and relatively inexpensive housing and can offer an excellent quality of life for those who wish to move to the area. However, many colleagues do commute from neighbouring areas., Dr Andy Gentil (Consultant Clinical Psychologist), Lead for CAMHS & Paediatric Psychology / NHS Borders.
- PLEASE NOTE: We cannot accept late applications so please ensure your application is submitted early NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period, for which you would be paid, until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Hiring Manager.
We wish to recruit new colleagues to recomplete our team of three Assistants. We are looking for people with enthusiasm to start their careers in Applied or Clinical Psychology in our small and friendly multidisciplinary team. We are looking for people with initiative, energy, excellent communication and engagement skills for patient-facing activity and multidisciplinary work. We are also looking for creativity and robust organisational and IT skills to help us with the day to day endeavours of CAMHS and to work with us on audits and service development projects too. Applicants must have a degree in Psychology that confers eligibility for graduate basis for registration with the BPS. You will need to be eligible to work in the UK immediately and to be able to obtain a PVG for this age group. You will need to have some relevant experience of working with children, young people or families experiencing challenges and demonstrate transferable skills for the CAMHS setting.
