Consultant Rheumatologist

We are seeking to appoint a Consultant Rheumatologist to join the existing award-winning Rheumatology team at NHS Grampian. This is a replacement post for 8 programmed activities.
The Rheumatology Department is based at Ashgrove House on the Foresterhill site and comprises of an out-patient clinic area exclusively for the department, day-case facilities, the osteoporosis centre, rheumatology physiotherapy and occupational therapy, video conferencing facility and staff offices. The Department provides comprehensive Rheumatology services for the large geographical region of Grampian in NE Scotland (population approx. 590,000) and the island of Orkney (population approx. 22,000). This includes inflammatory arthritis (with dedicated early disease clinics), spondyloarthropathy, connective tissue disease, vasculitis, metabolic bone disease and transitional care/young adult clinics.
The Rheumatology Department is part of the Aberdeen Centre for Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Health (ACAMH)- https://www.abdn.ac.uk/acamh/), which aims to facilitate innovative interdisciplinary clinical, research and training activities at the University of Aberdeen and NHS Grampian. The clinical service has been further enhanced by the collaborative work with ACAMH who host the BSR Ankylosing Spondylitis and Psoriatic Arthritis registries.
The Aberdeen Rheumatology Team, both NHS and academic has been deemed a EULAR centre of excellence the award running from 2010-2015, 2015-2020 and most recently from 2020 to 2026.
The Department is supported by a dedicated team of Nurses and Allied Health Professionals. The successful applicant will provide a comprehensive clinical service with a strong focus on inflammatory joint disease but will have the opportunity to develop sub-specialty interests to complement and enhance those that currently exist within the department.
8 Rheumatology PAs are currently available (6.5 DCC and 1.5 SPAs) without on call commitment.

Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from date of interview. Alternatively, applicants should possess a CESR / CESR (CP).
Applications from doctors with appropriate specialist training and experience who are not listed on the GMC Specialist Register can be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months) if no substantive Consultant appointment is made. Whilst in locum employment, an application to obtain a CESR / CESR (CP) and entry onto the Specialist Register can be made.
