Full Job Description
Applications are welcome for the above permanent post based at the Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy.
We are looking to appoint an intensive care medicine consultant with an associated specialist interest to complement a department of 9 ICM consultants in a busy District General Hospital. The posts will attract 2 SPAs to support service development, departmental extra-clinical commitments and personal administration. On-call commitments will cover ICU and may include a resident component in the future. The ICU at Victoria Hospital has 10 beds, with approximately 400 level 3 patients admitted annually.
We provide critical care for a wide range of general medicine and surgery patients. Onsite surgical specialties requiring critical care support include General Surgery, ENT, Maxillofacial, Obstetrics, Trauma and Orthopaedics. We expect that any base specialty interest could be accommodated, including anaesthesia, renal and respiratory medicine. Sub-specialist interests in anaesthesia such as obstetrics, regional anaesthesia, colorectal, day case anaesthesia and pre assessment could be accommodated.
The successful candidate will have a medical post graduate qualification (i.e. FRCA, MRCP, FFICM, etc.) and be on the Specialist Register or within six months of a Certificate of Completion of Training at the time of interview.
NHS Fife has an active postgraduate medical centre with fully stocked libraries and a comprehensive teaching programme with close links to Dundee, Edinburgh and St Andrews Medical Schools. Personal development is encouraged, as we are keen for individuals to pursue and develop special interests.
For informal discussions contact Dr Robert Thompson, Clinical Director for Anaesthesia and Critical Care on Ext 21623.
