Full Job Description

To have overall responsibility of the centre in the absence of the Duty Manager and manage the centre in accordance with the defined operational procedures and ensure the security of premises and equipment under their control. The person responsible for filling this role will assist the Duty Manager in managing the daily operation of the site. The person should ensure safe and good practice is adopted by all staff in the carrying out of the daily tasks and activities happening on site, ensuring company H&S procedures and industry guidance is followed. The role will oversee, manage and motivate leisure staff, reception staff and cleaners. The Deputy Duty Manager will be hands on in their role and while overseeing daily operations, they will also be required to uptake some of the workload of the leisure staff. The Deputy Duty Manager should assist with development of the site over time. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the Duty Manager in delivering continuous services within the leisure centre.
  • Assist the Duty Manager in managing the workload of the on-site departments.
  • Ensure H&S procedures and guidance is followed and take action where there are concerns.
  • Be a point of contact for on site staff for queries and guidance.
  • Deliver training to on-site team.
  • Assist the Duty Manager in managing maintenance through good communication and working closely with the maintenance team.
  • Ensure and promote compliance with relevant regulations i.e. COSHH, HSW Act, DSE Regs, Management of Health & Safety at Work etc, and ensure compliance is demonstratable.
  • Maintain on-site logbooks are maintained
  • Various administrative duties including - population of logbooks, creating staff rota, review and write task-based risk assessment, ensure PPM's are complete and maintenance logs are updates, write reports, emails, review and update PSOP. Various other admin tasks are likely.
  • Liaise with other organisational departments to ensure policies and procedures are upheld, along with ensuring sound decision making and continuous smooth operation i.e. HR, Payroll, I.T, Risk Team.
  • Cover for the Duty Manager in the case of holidays, sickness, and any other absence from work.
  • Deliver fitness classes.
  • Carry out lifeguarding duties.
  • Assist the Duty Manager with recruiting and retaining suitable staff.
  • Carry out appraisals where appropriate.
  • Be forthcoming with ideas to advance the site and generate third party income.
  • Plan and assist in planning events e.g. swimming galas etc.
  • Ensure a high standard of cleanliness is maintained of the site.
  • Be responsible for building security, opening and closing procedures.
  • Manage HR issues, grievances, disciplinary, leavers process, maternity etc, ensuring policy is followed in these instances.

    Experience in managing a buildings operation.
  • Experience in supervising or managing staff.
  • Experience in working with the public.
  • Excellent communicator (verbal and written).
  • Customer service experience.
  • Ability to lead by example, motivate and work well in a team-based environment.
  • Ability to think and make quick decisions under pressure.
  • Essential
  • NPLQ certificate.
  • Pool Plant Operator Qualification.
  • Level 2 Fitness Instructing Qualification.
  • Computer Literate (Microsoft Office Apps).
