The Post:
The Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) plays a vital role as part of NHS Scotland. NHS National Services Scotlands mission is to enable and support the delivery of better care working in partnership. We do this by providing a range of specialized support services that enable NHS boards to focus their efforts on delivering health improvement and patient care. Suitable applicants are invited to join a hard working team in Blood Bank / Immunohaematology sections of the Transfusion Centre.
The Candidate:
We are currently seeking to recruit a Healthcare (Biomedical) Support Worker to work within our Inverness Transfusion Laboratory based at Raigmore hospital; you will be trained to carry out a range of general duties to provide vital support for the Specialist Healthcare Scientists in our busy Clinical Laboratory.

The laboratories within the Inverness Blood Transfusion Centre have a laboratory staff establishment comprising of HCPC-registered Healthcare Scientist staff and Health Care Support Workers. Professional support is provided by nominated clinical Consultant Haematologists, and Blood Transfusion Medical staff with administrative support available from onsite administrative staff.
The Inverness Blood Transfusion Centre provides specialist clinical services in relation to Blood Banking and Immunohaematology Reference work. Better Blood Transfusion support to patients and clinical colleagues in wider NHS in Scotland is also available. Inverness Patient Services processes around 18,500 routine blood bank samples per annum, with 4,700 red cells issued on the site.
The successful candidate will be required to undergo a Disclosure Scotland check. Any candidate who have lived/worked overseas for more than 12 months in the preceding 5 years will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency.
Location and Working Pattern:
Inverness Blood Transfusion Centre, Raigmore Hospital, Inverness.
Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week.
It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with NSS.
