Full Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a lawyer to join the Debt Products Legal (DPL) team to help support our complex lending business, principally working in the syndicated debt space. DPL plays a critical role in supporting the Commercial Bank's lending proposition of today, whilst preparing us for the advances in the future. DPL serves as a centre of excellence and business partner, bringing a diverse mix of people, skills and expertise to the Group in managing the legal risks arising from our lending products, generating insight and value.,

  • Manage relationships with important internal customers and act as their business partner, while taking guidance from senior colleagues.
  • Conducts research using primary data sources and selects relevant information to enable analysis of key themes and trends.
  • Takes responsibility for providing particular aspects of the organisation's legal service with guidance from senior colleagues.
  • Uncovers emerging issues and / or needs and identifies potential causes, related issues, key stakeholders and barriers.
  • Recommends ways to improve support for operations by changing policies, processes, standards and practices.
  • Delivers prescribed outcomes for a designated area, using risk management systems to ensure the organisation is not exposed to undue risks.
  • Delivers prescribed outcomes for area of responsibility by improving and / or working within an established supplier management plan.
  • Identifies and evaluates complex expertise-led solutions against a range of criteria to find the ones that best meet business needs.
  • What we're looking for : You'll need to :
  • Provide technical legal input to support delivery of transactions and strategic projects;
  • Operate as a specialist legal adviser in respect of large corporate lending, particularly syndicated lending;
  • Build trust and internal networks and relationships to provide appropriate professional advice to achieve the Group's objectives;
  • Challenge and influence our partners, and deputise for senior colleagues where appropriate;
  • Collaborate with the other key legal areas within Commercial Banking Legal, both to support our business and to positively influence our community as a great place to work; and
  • Be agile and keen to upskill and willing to support legal, regulatory or other projects across CB Legal as well as wider CB Legal teams, products and businesses as appropriate.

    A current practising certificate in a relevant jurisdiction;
  • Experience and a good understanding of the legal and regulatory framework and market practices applying to commercial lending, particularly in the syndicated lending space; and
  • Post-qualifying legal experience in the above areas of expertise.
  • Desirables : It would be useful to also have :
  • Experience and knowledge of one or more of : (i) infrastructure and project finance; (ii) financial sponsors lending; and (iii) real estate finance; and
  • A working understanding of the delivery model for commercial lending.
