Full Job Description

This is an exciting time to join our team who is committed to service modernisation and delivery of systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) to cancer patients. Recent updates to CEL 30 allow the further expansion of the clinical pharmacy technician role within cancer services both locally and nationally, specifically around the clinical verification and delivery of SACT.

Experience of working in clinical pharmacy services, as well as in training and supervision of others are essential to this role. This postholder will be undertaking line management/mentoring roles for clinical pharmacy technicians and pharmacy support workers within cancer services including those in rotational posts.

There will also be collaborative working opportunities in partnership with equivalent/similar postholders in other acute sites as well as in primary care to further enhance the experience and development of pharmacy technicians in NHS Lothian. The postholder will also be a member of the Pharmacy Leadership Team, representing WGH and pharmacy technicians.

You must be registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council and have a recognised qualification at HNC level in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent, have a final accuracy checking technician qualification as well as the appropriate PDA qualification. A recognised work-based assessor's certificate is also essential.

NHS Lothian covers Edinburgh city, East Lothian, Midlothian and West Lothian. We are the second largest health system in NHS Scotland and one of only four teaching Boards. We have strategic partnerships with local Universities, Local Authorities and our four Integration Joint Boards. We serve a population of 900,000, providing a range of primary, community based and acute hospital services. We also provide regional and national services across a range of clinical specialties.

The vision for the Pharmacy & Medicines service is to deliver clinically led, person-centred services to ensure patients across Lothian get the best from their medicines and pharmacy services. We are focussed on creating an environment where each person in the team has the opportunity to flourish, develop and make best use of their skills.

The Western General Hospital (WGH) is a large teaching hospital with an established reputation for offering the best practice across a wide variety of specialist services. It is also home to the Edinburgh Cancer Centre (ECC), which is a leading centre for cancer services provision. We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced pharmacy technician to join our clinical pharmacy team within cancer services. You will be part of the management team within ECC, leading on the development of the clinical pharmacy technician role with oncology and haematology and provide line management to the clinical technicians working within this area.
