Join our Power T &D team as a Senior Environmental Sustainability Advisor on the BB Power Scotland Project and you'll deliver complex work that really matters to our business, and the world around you. We are looking for a Senior Environment & Sustainability Advisor to deliver environmental management requirements and actions and support our sustainability strategy. The role will provide strategic direction, support and guidance to our project teams on all aspects of environmental management, meeting legal and company standards and helping deliver a culture of continual improvement. It will support site-based project design, construction controls and mitigations, sustainability opportunities and deliver against client led contractual requirements. A key part of the role will be engagement with clients, stakeholders, subcontractors, and environmental authorities. Specifically, the role holder will directly support the Environmental Manager to:

  • Work closely with project teams to deliver environmental and sustainability
  • commitments, ensuring ongoing compliance with Balfour Beatty BMS and customer requirements, working with clients such as SSEN and or SPEN.
  • Oversee monthly performance reporting against client KPIs and internal
  • targets, seeking to make continuous improvements in process and quality of dataWhat you'll be doing
  • You will contribute to the strategic implementation of our sustainability plan,
  • driving actions, monitoring progress and reporting to senior Environmental Sustainability Team.
  • Manage project environmental risks and opportunities, supporting project
  • teams to develop and maintain local environmental and sustainability management plans and risk assessments.
  • Actively lead environment and sustainability, engaging project teams to
  • encourage and promote sustainable behaviours and innovations, deliver positive outcomes and maintain project documentation.
  • Provide support and advice on environmental management, compliance and
  • project specific mitigation measures including pollution control and ecology protection.
  • Support Environmental Advisors/Consultants and liaise with other group
  • sustainability teams to deliver best sustainability outcomes.
  • Direct and support teams' applications for consent, licences or permits as
  • required and ensure project/contract environmental compliance responsibilities are maintained.
  • Upskill the project team and contractors on environment and sustainability
  • responsibilities and controls via work package plans, toolbox talks and on-site learning and development. Developing a plan for education and reporting progress.
  • Ensure upload of environmental data monthly to the sustainability portal,
  • working with project teams to develop the most effective process.
  • Deliver monthly environmental sustainability performance reporting to the
  • client to meet project specific requirements.
  • Be involved at the planning stage to support design teams to identify and
  • control risk and identify opportunities to reduce carbon, waste and biodiversity net loss.
  • Liaise with client, regulatory bodies and subcontractors on matters of
  • environmental management and sustainability

    The following qualities/experience are essential:
  • Strong knowledge of environment management with the relevant experience
  • working in a construction environment.
  • Practical experience and sound knowledge of environmental statutory
  • requirements, including environmental legislation, ecology mitigation, environmental licencing and consent applications and regulation.
  • Understanding of the benefits of working collaboratively to obtain the best
  • outcome.
  • Good interpersonal, communication and influencing skills.
  • Determination to see tasks through to completion, with excellent planning and
  • organisation skills.
  • Interpreting and managing data via databases, consistent record keeping and
  • writing detailed reports.
  • Full UK driver's licence and flexibility to travel.
  • Literate in MS Office - Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Professional Membership level of a relevant professional body
  • (IEMA/CIEEM/CIWEM).
  • Experience of deputising for more senior role.
  • The following qualities/experience are desirable:
  • Good knowledge and practical experience of developing, implementing
  • and improving EMS's certified to ISO 14001 accreditation.
  • Internal environmental auditor qualification.
  • Knowledge of the Construction Industry - specifically understanding of the
  • power/construction/engineering operating environment.
  • Experience of taking on new challenges in a systematic and enthusiastic
  • manner.
  • Managing legislative issues for clients, including planning permissions and
  • consents.
  • Good understanding of ecological constraints within a construction
  • environment including ecological calendar, licensing and mitigation
