Role Purpose

The Scottish Borders Learning Disability Service currently have a vacancy for a full-time social worker.

This offers an excellent opportunity to join a well-established, integrated social care and health team supporting adults with a learning disability who require a specialist service.

The team is located at Scottish Borders Council Headquarters in Newtown St Boswells in the heart of the beautiful Borders countryside but still within reasonable commuting distance of Edinburgh and the Lothians. The service covers the whole of the Scottish Borders which has the attraction of being able to work within an environment of small local communities in pleasant rural surroundings whilst also offering ready access to the facilities of the city and the East coast.

The council operates a flexible working policy and there is currently the potential for some hybrid working in accordance with the needs of the service.

The successful candidate will be working alongside colleagues from nursing, psychiatry, psychology, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, dietetics, speech and language therapy and music therapy, with support from a committed admin team.

The team is busy and the work can be complex but also stimulating and rewarding, offering the experience of a wide variety of casework and multi-disciplinary working within a friendly, supportive and knowledgeable team of professionals.

There is a commitment to regular supervision and individual development opportunities as well as a team approach to Continuous Professional Development.

The post-holder would be required to provide an assessment and care management service to clients of the team in collaboration with other involved professionals, and to participate in our duty service.

We are looking for enthusiastic applicants who embody generic social work values and principles and are committed to improving outcomes for adults who have a learning disability and their families and to contributing to the development of the service.
