Full Job Description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

There are 5 fulltime permanent posts of 37 hours per week available.

This is a 24/7 service.

UK NMC Registered Nurses / registered ODPs are invited to join the theatre Team within Theatres North( Stobhill Day Surgery and Glasgow royal Infirmary)

Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) check will be required for this post.

The inpatient Theatres situated within Glasgow Royal Infirmary (voted the Best Scottish Hospital in 2021 and 2022 within the top 200 worldwide) support complex general and specialised surgery. We have 6 plastics theatres and are the burns centre for West of Scotland GG&C North sector theatres also provide 2 emergency theatres and 1 trauma on a 24/7 basis. Stobhill Theatres have 6 day surgery theatres including Ophthalmology, General, Orthopaedic, and Gynaecology cases.

We are seeking confident and assertive individuals with over year Theatre experience who are keen to contribute to the delivery of high-quality nursing care and service development.

As part of a multidisciplinary team, the post holder will ensure the safe patient journey through complex cases to day surgery. The emphasis is patient directed care. The fast paced theatre area also ensures escalation skill sets to meet changes within theatres. There is a drive to make all scrub practitioners become dual trained so development and flexibility of roles is beneficial to the Team and patient care.

The department is committed to individual development, this includes further study support to achieve dual trained status. We have a Robotic Theatre where staff can be trained to first assistant level. Our commitment to training expands across all roles within the department e.g. Band 4 training which has allowed our staff to progress to ODP training or Band 4 Scrub Practitioner.

Furthermore, you will be expected where necessary to engage in multi-site working within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde in order to achieve the needs of the service.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.

Candidates should provide original and authentic responses to all questions within the application form. The use of artificial intelligence (AI), automated tools, or other third-party assistance to generate, draft, or significantly modify responses is strongly discouraged.
