Full Job Description

The successful post holder will undertake teaching in the field of Film Directing with a particular focus on alternative and independent film practices. We are seeking an enthusiastic practitioner committed to developing their creative work in academic context and supporting students in the exploration of new filmmaking approaches. You will be able to evidence relevant knowledge of collaborative and interdisciplinary film techniques as well as an established artistic practice to support this.

Drawing on an expansive perspective of film, its audiences and the sites and contexts in which it can be presented, the post holder will play a key role in broadening teaching and learning approaches across undergraduate and postgraduate levels. You will primarily be responsible for introductory and intermediate courses that emphasise film in an artistic context, encouraging students to develop their individual practice by testing the limits of traditional methods of production.

Masters level PGT qualification in film or film art practice and/or commensurate professional experience in roles relevant to the post as a Film Director.
Experience of teaching and educational administration in higher education.
Comprehensive knowledge and expertise of film in an expanded and artistic context.
Demonstrable ability to teach film at undergraduate level.
Understanding of a range of current international approaches to filmmaking.
Demonstrable commitment to a diverse and inclusive working environment.
Excellent interpersonal skills with proven ability to work collaboratively.
