Full Job Description

Edinburgh University Library is looking for a full time Scan & Deliver Assistant to help support the teaching and research needs of the University by providing digitised access to print collections in response to user requests.

This is an excellent opportunity to work in a busy academic library supporting a key service, gain experience working with a number of Library systems and develop your knowledge of copyright., You will join the Collections Team and help us to provide digital access to our collections to staff and students, wherever they are located.

You will respond to requests for scans of chapters and extracts submitted by staff and students using the Library's Discovery service, DiscoverEd (Primo). You will then process requests using the Library Management System (Alma).

You will use your judgement to decide if requests can be supplied in line with copyright legislation and scan print collections to provide digitisations to fulfil requests.

Your role will also involve responding to queries from academic staff and students, using our call management system, Unidesk. Therefore, you will be an effective communicator who is confident and experienced in providing support to library users and can demonstrate initiative to resolve user enquiries.

You will liaise with colleagues across our site libraries and work closely with a number of Collections Services teams including E-reserve (who provide digitisations for teaching) and Library Learning Services (who support our Resource List service).

Experience working in a Library with a good working knowledge of library discovery and search tools
Ability to quickly learn and use new packages and library systems
Good communication skills both written and verbal
Good organisational skills with an ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively
High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

Desirable

A knowledge of copyright in libraries
Relevant Library or Information Studies qualification.

This is an open-ended (permanent) post. The current working pattern is Monday-Friday 9-5pm (35 hours per week). You will be based in the Main Library, George Square. Please note, that as you will be working with the print collections, hybrid working is not an option with this role and you will be expected to work on campus full-time.
