To manage the Countryside and Greenspace Team to ensure the Councils compliance with statutory duties, regulations and legislation covering biodiversity, outdoor access, allotments, play area maintenance and landscape design. The post also has a corporate advisory role and covers capital and revenue project management and contractual requirements for project delivery.

This is a specialist post that requires considerable experience in the environmental sector and an excellent working knowledge of national policy and external funding, as well as the ability to work across all Council resources and contribute to policy development. The post is key to ensuring that the work of the Countryside & Greenspace team is delivered in a cost effect manner and contributes directly to wider corporate council objectives.

Manage allocated revenue budgets and ensure that capital and revenue projects are delivered on budget and to specification.

Develop and maintain effective management planning for Council owned greenspaces, to enhance environmental sustainability, meet community needs and manage all associated risks.

Work corporately to help the council to meet all statutory and regulatory duties in relation to biodiversity, wildlife management, outdoor access, and allotment sites.

Work in partnership with SLLC to develop and ensure the effective management and improvement of the Councils two country parks.

Ensure the development and management of the councils Local Nature Reserves, including all aspects of programmed improvement works as well as annual maintenance works in partnership with Grounds operations.

Develop and manage externally funded support as well Capital funded monies, providing a contract management service that will ensure improved service delivery and community led/partnered projects are completed.

Provide a professional landscape design and play development service, liaising with external and internal stakeholders.

Provide specialist advice to Council Resources and Committees and maintain effective liaison with Scottish Government, Agencies, NHS and other service delivery partners.

You must have experience in managing a multi disciplined professional team and experience in the environmental sector and an excellent working knowledge of national policies and external funding. A good understanding and working knowledge on all statutory duties, regulations and legislation covering biodiversity, outdoor access, allotments, play area maintenance and landscape design.
