Full Job Description

The Role

The post holder is the deputy to the Nurse Director, H&SCP.

The post holder has strategic and operational leadership responsibility for ensuring the delivery of person centred, safe and effective nursing services and clinical practice within the H&SCP,  including providing direction and guidance on professional issues by delivering effective clinical and care governance,  implementing policy and supporting effective and highly skilled nursing workforce to meet the needs of the Lanarkshire population, in accordance  with the 20:20 Vision and Quality Strategy.

The post holder will undertake a lead role in the delivery of significant Board wide and pan H&SCP multi-professional issues such as the implementation of the Childrens (Scotland) Act 2014 and Mental Health Services, where hosting arrangements are established, ensuring the delivery of person centred, safe, effective and efficient pan Lanarkshire Services.

The post holder will deputise for the Nurse Director, H&SCP and as such is required to attend Executive level meetings such as the Corporate Management Team and Public Protection - Chief Officer meetings in the absence of the Nurse Director, H&SCP.

In addition, the post holder will have a strategic portfolio which involves leading on specific professional / managerial and operational issues for nursing across NHS Lanarkshire. Representing Lanarkshire at a national level on specific areas of practice. E.g. health visiting, paediatrics, mental health, district nursing.

The post holder is responsible for providing professional and clinical leadership for all nursing staff within the H&SCP, as well as on a pan Lanarkshire basis where services are hosted within the Partnership.

There are a total number of 6,450 nursing and Allied Health Professional staff within NHS Lanarkshire with the post holders being professionally responsible for approximately 2062 nursing staff (1422 in North and 640 in the South). Areas of responsibility will include one or other of the portfolios below dependant on area of deployment:

Qualifications

Educated to/working towards or operating at Masters Level.

Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration.

Experience, Competencies  and Personal Skills

Significant senior management experience in the NHS or another complex multidisciplinary public or private sector organisation.

A significant  and demonstrable  track record of success in the management  of service improvement, in the delivery and monitoring of high quality standards of care, in the planning and delivery of successful organisational change and in proactive partnership working internal and external to the NHS.

A high  level of performance  in the leadership  behaviours  identified  as crucial  within NHS Scotland  such as working  in partnership,  learning  and development,  caring  for staff, improving  performance  through  team working,  communicating  effectively, improving quality and achieving results.

Detailed understanding of clinical best practice and policy.

Experience of working and successfully contributing within a senior team.

Experienced in staff management/development and multi-disciplinary working at peer level.

Proven people and financial management capabilities.

 

Contract type

Fixed Term or Secondment for 9 months

Full time 

37 hours

Please note this is a fixed term post for 9 months. Where a post only has temporary funding and an existing member of NHS Lanarkshire staff wishes to apply, this will be treated as a secondment. The employee MUST already have written agreement from their line manager to be released on a secondment before applying for the post.

Location and Working Pattern

This role will be based in South Health & Social Care Partnership, Almada Street Hamilton.

The working pattern for this role is Mon-Fri; 9:00-5:00.

From 1 April 2024, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change workers in Scotland will be reduced.  Full-time hours will reduce from 37.5 to 37 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings.

NHS Lanarkshire will implement this change but it may not be possible to fully transition from 1 April and there may therefore be some areas of the organisation where implementation may take longer.  If the department is currently unable to safely accommodate the reduced hours from 1st April, you may be required to work 37.5 hours per week until the department can meet the requirements without impacting patient safety - you will, of course, be remunerated accordingly. NHS Lanarkshire is committed to full implementation of the 37 hour working week across all areas as soon as it is safe to do so.
