The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our highly motivated, forward thinking clinical pharmacy team at University Hospital Hairmyres, NHS Lanarkshire, as a qualified pharmacist. 

You will provide high quality, patient focused pharmaceutical care in this role. You will rotate through various clinical specialties, medicines information and dispensary, working as part of the clinical pharmacy team and alongside the wider multidisciplinary teams. You will ensure an efficient and timely supply of pharmaceutical advice and medication within a secondary care setting.

You will be encouraged and supported to complete the Royal Pharmaceutical Society Post-Registration Foundation framework. You will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of education and training activities both in and out with the department alongside members of our Pharmacy Education and Training team.

What we'll need you to bring 

Masters of Pharmacy Degree

Registered member of General Pharmaceutical Council

Independent Prescribing qualification or undertakes to complete within reasonable timescale.

Ability to work under pressure. 

Able to plan, prioritise and organise workload

Experience in patient information/education

Ability to effectively monitor patients therapeutic regimens in order to ensure effectiveness and reduce toxicity

Able to work under their own initiative and as part of a team. 

Commitment to revalidation as per directions of General Pharmaceutical Council

Good verbal and written communication skills

Self motivation

Good interpersonal skills

Demonstrate customer awareness/focus

Participation in weekends and public holiday service

Participation in pharmacy emergency duty

Willingness to contribute to the general working of the pharmacy department

This role will be based in Pharmacy within University Hospital Hairmyres.

The working pattern for this role will be day shifts.

From 1 April 2024, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change workers in Scotland will be reduced.  Full-time hours will reduce from 37.5 to 37 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings.

NHS Lanarkshire will implement this change but it may not be possible to fully transition from 1 April and there may therefore be some areas of the organisation where implementation may take longer.  If the department is currently unable to safely accommodate the reduced hours from 1st April, you may be required to work 37.5 hours per week until the department can meet the requirements without impacting patient safety - you will, of course, be remunerated accordingly. NHS Lanarkshire is committed to full implementation of the 37 hour working week across all areas as soon as it is safe to do so.
