The Role

University Hospital Monklands is looking for a dynamic Senior Pharmacy Technician to join our pharmacy aseptic team! This post will form part of the senior pharmacy team within aseptic services and contribute to ensuring safe and effective provision of aseptically-prepared products that support patient care.

Furthermore, they will work closely with the Chief Pharmacy Technician and other Senior Pharmacy Technicians to provide leadership to the pharmacy technical workforce as well as supporting their education, training and development.  Importantly, the successful candidate will demonstrate the NHS Lanarkshires core values of respect, fairness, quality and working together.  Significant previous experience of contributing to pharmacy aseptic services is required and the post holder will have excellent team-working skills as well as an ability to work under pressure within a fast paced environment.  

It is an exciting time at University Hospital Monklands with developing future plans for the replacement of the current hospital site, including a new aseptic unit. Also, there are significant changes underway to the initial education and training of pharmacy professionals and will shape future roles. What we'll need you to bring 

National certificate in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent

SVQ Level III

Registered pharmacy technicians with General Pharmaceutical Council

Higher National certificate in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent

Accredited final accuracy checking qualification (PACT - aseptic checking )

Commitment to CPD as per GPhC guidance

Minimum of 4 years post qualification experience as a qualified pharmacy technician in hospital including time spent in aseptic services.

Experience in the supervision of other staff or a functional area of pharmacy.

Experience in developing and implementing SOPs

Experience in delivering induction and competency based training and assessment.

Ability to work of and lead a team

Ability to prioritise and organise routine daily tasks using own initiative whilst supervising and leading a team.

Ability to work under pressure accurately and demonstrate accurate numeracy skills..

Ability to communicate more complex information effectively using clear written and verbal skills.

Ability to identify and manage risks.

Participation in departmental weekend and public holiday working.

Willingness to contribute to the general working of the pharmacy department.

It would be great if you also have

SVQ assessor qualification (or willingness to work towards)

From 1 April 2024, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change workers in Scotland will be reduced.  Full-time hours will reduce from 37.5 to 37 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings.

NHS Lanarkshire will implement this change but it may not be possible to fully transition from 1 April and there may therefore be some areas of the organisation where implementation may take longer.  If the department is currently unable to safely accommodate the reduced hours from 1st April, you may be required to work 37.5 hours per week until the department can meet the requirements without impacting patient safety - you will, of course, be remunerated accordingly. NHS Lanarkshire is committed to full implementation of the 37 hour working week across all areas as soon as it is safe to do so.
