Full Job Description

The Role

University Hospital Monklands is looking for a dynamic Clinical Pharmacist to join our pharmacy team! The post holder will provide a clinical pharmacy service to patients within medical admissions areas (and others, as required). They will also spend half of their working week supporting the safe, effective and person-centred use of antimicrobials within the hospital. This will involve providing advice, support and training to other healthcare professionals on the use of the antimicrobials as well as participating in quality improvement initiatives to optimise their use to the benefit of patients and staff. Additionally, you will actively support the Antimicrobial Management Team within NHS Lanarkshire.

It is an exciting time at University Hospital Monklands with the introduction of Hospital Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (HEPMA) and developing future plans for the replacement of the current hospital site. Also, there are significant changes underway to the initial education and training of pharmacy professionals and will shape future roles.

What we'll need you to bring 

Masters of Pharmacy Degree

Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.

Continuing Professional Development as detailed by the General Pharmaceutical Council (mandatory requirement)

Relevant post registration experience in hospital pharmacy

Postgraduate training and professional development in clinical pharmacy practice e.g. Stage II Scottish Vocational Training / 1st year clinical diploma

Demonstrable experience in providing a clinical pharmacy service to a defined patient group. 

Experience in patient information/education

Experience in supervising staff

Ability to effectively monitor patients therapeutic regimens in order to ensure effectiveness and reduce toxicity

Clinical pharmacy / care planning

Good verbal and written communication skills

Self motivation

Ability to work effectively as part of a team, in a pharmacy and multi-disciplinary environment

Proven project / practice research/ audit skills

Participation in weekend and public holiday working

Participation in pharmacy emergency duty service (if appropriate)

Willingness to contribute to the general working of the pharmacy department.

From 1 April 2024, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change workers in Scotland will be reduced.  Full-time hours will reduce from 37.5 to 37 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings.
